WHY CAN URINARY INCONTINENCE PROBLEMS OCCUR AFTER PREGNANCY/BIRTH? HOW CAN YOU COPE WITH IT? HOW CAN YOU HELP YOURSELF?
There are several reasons for this: hormonal changes, relaxation of the uterine muscles which are responsible for closing the urethra, multiple births, birth of a baby weighing more than 4 kg, and the use of forceps or a vacuum during birth.
Urinary incontinence often goes away on its own during the postpartum period. But because not everyone’s body regenerates at the same rate, the return to the pre-pregnancy state looks different for every woman.
Weight control, return to former activity, Kegel muscle exercises help. Until the incontinence subsides, you can use special hygienic solutions (e.g. tampons) to increase your comfort. If the problem persists, consult your GP or gynaecologist, who will recommend further treatment.
